Tips to Gather Data From Your Website

Collecting data from your website is one of the most important aspects of running a website. It is an important way to show you what your visitors think and how the site can improve. There are a few different ways that you can better collect data and find out how you can better the user experience. Here are a few ideas:

Create A Survey:

One of the quickest and easiest ways for your visitors to give their opinion of your website is to create a survey. Make sure that the questions you ask are open and can realistically give you an idea of what you can improve. Almost anyone will take the minute or two that it takes to fill out a survey. It will increase your sample size and show you the most important things that you need to work on. One of the negatives of relying solely on a survey is that it’s not completely personalized. If the user reads the question but doesn’t have the option to choose an answer that properly fits their opinion, the survey becomes somewhat skewed. Make sure that you have enough questions to get a good sample size and enough answers to completely cover the user’s possible opinions and ideas.

Create A “Contact Us” Feature:

This has become a staple for websites these days. On your website,  you should have a page where your visitors can find out how to contact you. An office phone number, email address, physical address, and anything else that you see fit should go on there. You could even include your social media pages, if you want. However, avoid putting any personal information on the page. If a user is displeased with their experience, many times they will look to contact you via email. It allows your site’s users to explain exactly how they feel, and it doesn’t take a lot of time. Make sure that your “contact us” feature is easy to find, and the rest will take care of itself.

Be Open To Criticism:

Gathering this data won’t automatically change things for you. You need to use this data to improve your site. Make sure that you’re okay with changing things up to improve the site. Many times the criticism that you will get isn’t personal, just some advice that will help you make things better.

Collecting this data is a good thing for all parties. It allows the user to share have an opinion and it helps you know what can improve their online experience. Ask your visitors to fill out these web forms and allow them to help you improve.
