1. The windows theme files which are in the earlier version of Windows 8 are having .themepack extension but the for Windows 8, the theme pack is having .deskthemepack extension.

2. To open the second category of file (.desktemepack) you are going to need one Software 7-Zip. By downloading and installing this software you will be able to open the .deskthemepack .

3. After installing this 7-zip download one theme file from Windows theme galley and then press F2 to rename the file name and make it .7z .Now you will be able to extract all the wallpapers to your desktop or anywhere you want.

4. You you will be able to use this themes as background individually or you can go to the “Desktop Background” which is in control panel and now browse for the containing folder and select the background that you want to set as background image.
