Hidden Function of iPhone to Measure 3G Signal Strength!

Spread the love

Like other mobile phones and smartphones, iPhone is also having signal strength indicator  bars in the upper right corner of the display. But this display of the signal strength has always given the user a feeling that the signal strength bar that is showing is not the exact signal power received by the iPhone.User are not satisfied with the bars which are shown in the iPhone display.Because sometimes though it shows full signal but still people cannot send SMS or even cannot call to anyone. But there is a hidden function of iPhone to measure the 3g signal strength and this is inbuilt in iOS.The hidden function is named as “Field test” and through this function people will be able to show the digital display of the received signal strength which is a decimal value and not a kind of display.

Below are the steps about how to measure 3G signal strength in an iPhone:

1. At first you need to open the phone function and then you need to enter * 3001 # 12345 # * followed by pressing call.

2.Now the screen will automatically jump to “Field Test” and you will see that in the top left corner there is a value like “-xx” in xx there may be 70 or 72 like this.Actually this is the signal strength in dB.

3. The value is the signal strength of iPhone.(In this case if the value is small then it is better.Because the values are in minus. So, -50 is better -70).

Actually some people can also do it by using SBSetting for which you need jail break. But the above method does not need to do any jail break.

For the SBSetting do the following steps:

Open SBSettings> down to the System Wide Options> click System Options> open Numeric GSM> back to the main screen and optional Respring.

Interesting Experience: Another interesting thing is that you will experience the signal strength is dropping when you touch the gap in the lower left corner of the metal band.

Note: If you want to run a Field Test in your iPhone then you must have latest iOS 4.1.
