Spread the love

Searching information on the web has been made easier by search engines such as Google. However, in most cases, it is not all about keying in the words and hitting the search button. Because information on the Internet is vast, you need to have some basic knowledge of using Google search for you to get the exact piece of info you want. You will only get it right if you know how to work the systems. So, in this article we will discuss how to use Google in an efficient way.

  1. Use Relevant Words:

So, the first trick about how to use Google is about searching for a particular word. When searching for content on Google, try to use only the relevant words in your search. Avoid too much feeder information. Save yourself the time by only using the words that matter. So many words in your search will bring up results that are rather vague.

2. Specify the Type of Info You Want:

Your queries should be tied to the content you are seeking. If you want images of beautiful houses, for example, use the words “beautiful houses images”. If your questions are the “why” type or “how to”, be specific and include the words in the search box.

3. Use Quotation Marks When Searching for Consecutive Words:

If you want to find results for consecutive words as they appear in a sentence or a phrase, use quotation marks to enclose them. For example, if you are searching for “expensive laptops”, the quotation marks will ensure you get results that have these words in that order.

4. A Text with Certain Words:

Are you looking for a text on the internet that contains certain words? The best way to get such content is typing allintext: then the words. For example, if you want a piece that contains the words Dubai, Museum and Tourism, type in the search box, allintext: Dubai museum tourism.

If you are looking for content that has certain text in the title, use the word allintitile: followed by the words. And if you are looking for text that is found in the URL of a certain piece, then use allinurl.

5. When Looking for the Definition of a Word:

To search the definition of a word, type define: the word.

6. Translations:

Translations can be searched by typing the command: translate “¬word” to ‘language”. For example, translate kulala to English.

7. Omission of Words

If you want results that do not have a certain word, put the –sign before the word you wish to omit. Let’s say, you wish to search for content about football, but you don’t want any information about FIFA. In the search box, just type the words football –FIFA.

8. Comparing Words

If you want search results that give a comparison between two terms, use “OR” between the words. For example, you can search for information on hospital and laboratories by typing these words in the search box: hospital OR laboratories.

9. Pages Linking to Website

Are you looking for sites on the internet with links to a particular web page? With Google search, all you have to do is use the link: command then follow it with the name of the page. For example, if you are looking for websites that cite Kimojis, input in the search box: link kimojis.

10. The Specific Document Types

Sometimes you want information that is presented in a particular document type. Google search options will help you get your desired document type with the click of a button. For example, if you are looking for Alzheimer’s diagnosis in PDF format, just type “Alzheimer’s diagnosis” filetype:pdf

And that’s just how you can get what you want on the internet using Google.
