Best Ways to Save Yourself from Unnatural Disaster on Mac

Spread the love

How often we hear a tale of disk corruption on Mac? When we take a closer look, it turns out that every Mac user has been a victim of similar contingencies at least once. Macs are no exception when we say failures and disasters can occur in any digital environment. You will be left in ruins when these disasters cause loss of vital data stored within your Mac computer. Here are a few tips to fight data disasters and keep your Mac in order.

Verify Preferences

All obsessed users are inclined to set up preferences for the system and different applications installed on their computer. Mac keeps this information in preference files. If some corruption occurs to these files, then you start seeing odd-looking menus and experiencing similar weird behavior. To check these preference files for corruption, you can simply run the Unix utility plutil at the Terminal as follows:

sudo plutil -s ~/Library/ Preferences/*.plist

If you see any output, then this is indicative of some error.

Repair Disk Permissions

Corrupt permissions can be a source of unexplained issues or even crashes. This is more likely a concern for those who frequently download trialware or shareware. Rogue third-party installers tend to modify these permissions permanently disabling access to certain applications and folders or causing other problems. You can fix corrupt disk permissions using the ‘Repair Disk Permissions’ feature of Apple’s Disk Utility. This process works by comparing the current permissions on your files and folders to the information in the top-level Library: Receipts folder.

Clear Your Caches

The primary use of caches is to speed up applications and improve the overall performance of Mac. Large cache files are prone to corruption. If you notice weird behavior of the system, there is a good chance that your cache files have gone bad. Make sure you delete these caches before they pose the risk of a serious problem.

Delete Log Files

Every application and even OS X maintains logs to keep track of each activity occurring in the system. Over a period of time, these logs get excessively bigger in size and become a major cause of depleting disk space. To fix this issue, you should periodically delete your system- and application-level log files.

In addition to this, you should repair the directory of your Mac OS X startup disk as a part of routine maintenance. You can opt for professional Mac data recovery software to retrieve every bit of useful data off your corrupt OS X hard drive.

Hiya! Quick question that’s completely off topic. Do you know how
to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when browsing from
my iphone 4. I’m trying to find a template or
plugin that might be able to resolve this problem. If you have any recommendations, please share.
Thank you!
