5 Reasons to Say Goodbye USB Drives

Spread the love

Say Goodbye USB Drivers!! You must be thinking, who the h*ll you are who is suggesting to say goodbye USB drivers?  But the interesting thing about technology is that it is constantly moving forward. However, whenever there is a move in question, a lot of things get left behind. This is just the way things are. One of these things is the very notion of USB drives. Although USB drives were revolutionary in their age, as well as great advancement over CD/DVD solution, now it is time to go one step further. In the era of incredibly convenient virtual, online storage solutions there is really no need whatsoever to still stick to USB drives. Here are five reasons why we consider this to be so.

1.   Getting misplaced

The fact that USBs are made quite small in order to be as compact as possible has made them incredibly easy to lose or misplace. At any time it can simply fall out of your pocket or get lost in public transportation. If you are moving to a new home, the tiny USB drive is probably the first thing you will misplace. However, with virtual storing solutions this simply cannot happen. The very fact that it is virtual and not material, makes any data stored there completely impossible to lose. In light of this truth, it is easy to see why USB drive technology may soon be obsolete.

2.   Practicality

Now, the reason we started using USB drives in the first place was because they were quite practical. On CD/DVD, you could only write once, and then you had to carry this highly impractical device everywhere with you. On the other hand, you could carry your USB in your wallet, your pocket or around your neck and write and rewrite on it as much as you like. However, the difference in practicality between CD/DVD and USB drives is not even that great when both of these methods are compared to cloud storing system. By storing your data on a cloud based app like pCloud, you can access it from any terminal (computer or mobile device) on the planet. Speaking of practicality, this is as good as it gets.

3.   Storage space

The next great advantage of cloud technology over drive storage is having more storage space. The worst thing about USB drives is a fact that they have quite limited amount of space available for storage. You get what you paid for and there is no way to increase the size of your already existent storage device. With the help of the cloud, this is completely different. Huge cloud storage servers will give you a significant initial portion of space, but you will have the option to buy additional space. Because of the way cloud storage works, you will be able to get as much space as you need.

4.   Security issues

As we already mentioned, the USB drive gets easily lost but it gets easily stolen too. First of all, USB drives, once stolen are completely impossible to trace. Also, because those larger in size can be quite pricy, USB drives are popular items on the black market. Last but not the least, in the case of corporate espionage, it is far easier to simply steal USB stick than to hack into a secure cloud network. On the other hand, there are some beliefs about Cloud system being not secure enough as well, but most of these claims are nothing more than urban legends. Even some of the most renowned experts from Google and Microsoft agree, that the cloud of today is indeed safe for use.

5.   Retrieving the data

Finally, on your USB drive, once something is deleted, it is gone for good and this can cause a world of troubles. Alas, on USB drives their troubles are impossible to solve. This is why, cloud offers a solution. If you delete something accidentally or out of negligence only to discover you still need that data, on cloud you can always retrieve it.

All in all, reasons for abandoning USB drives are numerous and they are all quite convincing. The truth is that when it comes to technology there is no room for nostalgia. Once something is proven to be outdated, it needs to be abandoned as soon as possible. This however, is always followed by resorting to more advanced alternative. In this case, cloud technology seems to be the most suitable pretender to USB drive’s place in the world of digital storage.
